Sexual/Emotional Exploitation Recovery
E-Mail Peer Support
for Christian Evangelicals

Other Email Support Groups

ecsatalk@advocateweb.org
The ecsatalk E-Mail Discussion List is for Christian evangelicals sexually or emotionally exploited by pastors in their faith community who wish to participate in an online "peer support community" of other evangelical victim/survivors and victim/survivor/advocates. The list will also be used to share and discuss resources, preventative actions (identifying "red flag" behaviors), and other issues related to the evangelical experience, i.e. demonization of victims, abuse of scripture by perpetrators and their supporters, etc.

By using these discussion lists, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

You agree to hold harmless the owners and administrators of AdvocateWeb for any harm that may result from your using this email list. You warrant that you are a present or former victim/survivor of professional or clergy exploitation or abuse, or a survivor/advocate. You further warrant that (1) you are not a professional or member of the clergy who has exploited someone with whom you were in a fiduciary or other professional relationship; and (2) you are not and never have been under investigation for professional misconduct.

You agree not to hold AdvocateWeb liable for the misuse of this list by those who maliciously or fraudulently misrepresent who they are, or for any other actions by list participants.

As a member of this list, you agree to maintain other members' privacy and confidentiality. You agree to seek permission from the author of a posting before you share what is said in the ecsatalk group with anyone else. You also agree to not disclose participants' email addresses to any non-participants.

Remember, in order to participate, you are agreeing to not share any postings without the direct permission of the author.

It is often unwise to name your perpetrator in an online email peer support group such as this.   If you happen to encounter another victim of your same perpetrator, it can be harmful to you in a legal case, if you are talking with other victims of the same abuser.   Therefore, we encourage you to use this as a place to find support, rather than to just name your perp (which really wouldn't prove to be of much value to do so anyway).  Also in naming your perp, you may also be inadvertently exposing your identity, thus if you wish to have this as a place of where you can get anonymous support, usually giving such identifying factors can compromise your anonymity substantially.  (But with email, your anonymity is only partially protected anyway, as emails are traceable, plus you have no control over where your email goes once you send it, if someone forwards it.)

AdvocateWeb does not provide any professional services. If you are suicidal or in crisis, please call 911 or your local suicide/crisis hotline.

Nothing you say via email or any forum or support group on the Internet is completely confidential. Use discretion in choosing where and with whom you share personal information, especially if you are involved in litigation, or might be in the future. Check with your attorney before revealing identifying information about yourself on this forum. We suggest that you not knowingly share personal information with other victims of the same perpetrator. AdvocateWeb will not share your confidential information with anyone without your permission, unless required by court order.

AdvocateWeb reserves the right to refuse or terminate participation to people who do not abide by the foregoing terms.

If you are concerned about anonymity, you might consider creating an alternate email account using one of the many free email services.

We aren't trying to scare you by all of these rules and disclaimers, but we do want to emphasize that we cannot guarantee your safety in using the Internet.  We are trying to help you make informed choices so that you can make your own decisions to protect yourself.

In order to register to use this free email discussion list service, carefully read the terms and conditions above, and then send an email to listadmin@advocateweb.org, stating:

(This will be kept totally private, and will not be shared with other members of the list.)

Once you are added as a member, all participants will be notified of the addition of your email address as a participant (we will not disclose your name).   Please do not simultaneously subscribe using multiple email addresses.

Also, included with your membership on ecsatalk is automatic registration on our HOPE eNewsletter list.
