Retreats for Survivors of Clergy Sexual Abuse 2000

Is Nothing Sacred? is the nationally acclaimed retreat for survivors of clergy sexual abuse. Recognized by both survivors and religious leaders for its effectiveness in healing, Is Nothing Sacred? is specifically designed to address the spiritual, emotional and psychological devastation of clergy sexual abuse.

The weekend features times for education and reflection, small and large group activities and media presentations that help participants reframe their experience. Shared meals and hospitality help develop healing community during the weekend. Optional opportunities for religious and spiritual practice are developed by participants. Particular attention is given to justice-making and next steps along the healing journey.

Associates In Education and Prevention in Pastoral Practice is proud to be a national provider of the Is Nothing Sacred? retreat. AEPPP is a non-profit inter-religious healing ministry. Founded in 1991 AEPPP is trusted resource for survivors dealing with the aftermath of professional misconduct.

  • Is Nothing Sacred?  A Retreat for Women Survivors of Clergy Sexual Abuse
    June 30-July2, 2000 
    Adelynrood Conference Center Byfield, MA Cost $295.00 
    Led by: Rev. Patricia L. Liberty.  
    The Adelynrood Conference and Retreat Center in Byfield, MA is located near Newburyport, 30 miles north of Boston and 10 miles south of the New Hampshire state line. Most rooms are single. The staff of Adelynrood are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for this retreat.

  • Is Nothing Sacred?  A Retreat for Couples
    June 2-3, 2000  
    Kirkridge Retreat and Study Center 2495 Fox Gap Road Bangor, PA  
    Led by: Rev. Patricia L. Liberty and Dr. Bill Sapp 
    This retreat is designed for couples, with one person in the couple being a survivor of clergy sexual abuse. Based on the content of the women's retreat, this retreat provides pastoral care and reframing information to couples. This new program is in direct response to requests form survivors for additional support for couples.

Rev. Patricia L. Liberty is Executive Director of AEPPP. She is an ordained United Church of Christ minister with 20 years experience in parish and chaplaincy ministries and is a co-founder of AEPPP. She has led the Is Nothing Sacred? Retreat since 1993. Ms. Liberty was trained at the Center for the prevention of Sexual and domestic violence in1991. Prior to her work with AEPP she served a local church pastor and a hospice chaplain.
Dr. Bill Sapp is an ordained Baptist minister and marriage and family therapist. He is a fellow in the American Association of Pastoral counselors and a clinical member and Approved Supervisor in the Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. Dr. Sapp is currently the director of a program composed of twenty-two counseling centers located in the commonwealth of Kentucky. He received training at the Center for the prevention of Sexual and domestic Violence in 1991 and has worked with them in education and prevention.

 

Special Note:    The participants of the August 21-23, 1998 retreat have written "An Open Letter to Religious Leaders".
