"What about accountability to the
patient?"
Recently, the Ontario Special Task Force on Sexual Abuse of
Patients by Health Professionals reunited to issue an
independent report on the progress of a "zero tolerance"
policy introduced in 1994. Despite this policy, the problem
has continued. They indicate a conservative estimate of as
many as 200,000 Ontario residents have been verbally embarrassed,
propositioned, touched inappropriately or even raped by the very
health professionals whose services they sought.
