Night Dancer
by Dorothy

And like a cat
she sleeps in the sun
and chases butterflies
that sometimes aren’t there
and licks a tender paw,
the one a thorn has pricked
Perhaps, tomorrow will be different.

Wrap a tale around you tight
to keep away the night.

Yet still, it comes still,
beneath a blue black sheath
stars sneak out to wake her
to take her
to a nether world.

Limping through the foliage dark
to dance upon her stage
She grasps thin rays from shadows
sustain her soul
for one more day.

She bends, to lick a tender paw
the one the thorn has pricked
Perhaps, could be
tomorrow will be different.

Wrap a tale around you tight
to keep away the night.
