We walk less traveled byways
And we seldom see the sun.
Our complicated journeys
Have been too arduous for one.
Do not ask us where the grace is
When you pass us on the road.
You will know it when you see it,
If you simply share our load.
We shield our wounded spirits
And we lock our weeping hearts.
The healing never happens
If the healing never starts.
Do not ask us where the grace is
When you're face to face with fear.
You will know it when you touch it,
If you wipe away a tear.
We ask our heartsore questions;
The "What ifs" and the "Whys".
We cannot see your heaven
If you always close our eyes.
Do not ask us where the grace is
If you tremble at our prayer.
You will know it when you hear it
If you choose to listen there.
Sometimes our lives are tortured
By the ghosts of others' sin.
Perspective is important:
Looking out or looking in.
Do not ask us where the grace is
If it's not immediately seen.
It's not only words or actions,
But loving patience in between.
