The Predator

I sit with her close, sad, silent, beautiful…met at fifteen. Wed for oh these many years: solid church, a family, nice brick house, pastor loved like father, a church home envied. Buddies share long lazy, hunts, clichés and snippet’s of Bible verse to base a life. An ache, a whisper of despair pervades. Depression creeps, stomach heaves, a hidden snare, a silent predator stalks, stares, to himself he laughs, aware. Unsuspecting, sad, a need for peace, full of respect, lead her to his lair. Horror looms dark…a feigned friendship, sage advice, memories of home and father, …So much comfort, security always at a price. In fleeting sleep she floats aloft while probing hands steal her youth. A predator waits in robes of white. He Knows her secrets, her hidden dreams. A quiet office, arms that hold, deep sighs, eyes closed in trust. A place God surely lives, dark, warm, secure, safe, no place else to be.

A vacant leer where once a smile resides, with eyes that lie, hands that rip and touch and steal innocent flesh…the one who prays becomes the prey. Dad’s little girl, a mom to hug, a wife to love…. now raped with scripture’s blood in pastor’s putrid way. Old friends look away aghast hold hate and blame for innocence past. God and Angels bleed cold tears, husband cries, children fear, father sighs. Only sleep delays the pain, a sleep impossible to gain. Years passed by, a loss of life precious gone, eyes starring out at dawn…prayers to God to take us home. Kev’s flashing webs, Gerri’s word’s that love, friendships gained for life. New friends found, she is believed… Small light beams in clearing mist, Spirit whispers, silent growing hope begins, pain recedes and life returns, a smile once more her face adorns.
