Massachusetts: Bill Extends Time Limit on Sexual Abuse Lawsuits

by Stanley J. Spero

The bill approved by the state’s House of Representatives and Senate with unanimous support on June 26, 2014 will give child victims of sexual abuse until age 53 to bring a civil action against their abusers.

The victims will also be able to bring suit against their abuser’s supervisor and institutions from the time of this bills effective date.

In addition, the bill will allow victims seven (7) years to file claim once they discover or reasonably should have discovered that emotional or psychological injury or condition was caused by such acts of abuse.
